Built new in 2007, Wimmer drove this Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to a ninth-place finish at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway last March (started 22nd) and Jeff Burton finished 40th in August (started third) at Bristol after being caught up in an incident of another driver’s making. After receiving a brand new body and being outfitted with all the 2008 updates, Wimmer drove this Holiday Inn Chevy to Victory Lane at Nashville Superspeedway in March. · Chasing a Championship … Based on Wimmer’s 22nd-place finish at Michigan last weekend, the No. 29 Holiday Inn Racing team slipped from fourth to fifth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series owners’ championship point standings, now 72 points out of fourth and 522 behind the leader. · Bristol Breakdown … In 10 NNS starts at BMS, Wimmer boasts three top-five and five top-10 finishes and has led 51 laps. The Wausau , Wis. , native has logged a 16.8 starting average combined with a 14th-place finishing average. Dating back to March 24, 2001, he has completed 2,242 of 2,471 laps contested (90.7 percent). · A Season in the Loop … o Average Running Position … According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, the 32-year-old driver has an Average Running Position of 11.7 in 16 starts this season. The ARP is derived from taking the sum of a driver’s position on each lap and dividing it by the number of laps run in each race. o Running Up Front … Meanwhile, the six-time NNS winner has spent 80.9 percent of laps contested (2,201 of 2,719) running in the top 15. o Driver Rating … Wimmer also enjoys a Driver Rating of 94.1. The Driver Rating is a formula that combines the following categories: wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum points a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The Driver Rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator. · RCR at Bristol … Richard Childress leads the way for Nationwide Series car owner victories at Bristol with six – four of them coming with Kevin Harvick, one with Jeff Green and Clint Bowyer’s win in March. In 41 starts, RCR boasts four poles, 18 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes and has led for 1,457 laps on the high-banks of Bristol . · Sweet 16 … In 16 Nationwide Series starts this season, Wimmer has posted one win ( Nashville ), three top-five and nine top-10 finishes. The six-time series winner has an average start of 14.8 coupled with an impressive finishing average of 10.6. This weekend’s race is the 17th of 23 that Wimmer is scheduled to drive the Holiday Inn Chevrolet. · And Then There Were 10 … Over the season’s first 25 Nationwide Series races, Burton and Wimmer have posted one win (Nashville), five top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. The Holiday Inn drivers have an impressive 11.4 starting average to go along with an 11.6 finishing average. The duo has completed 4,159 of the 4,304 laps contested this season (96.6 percent) and has led 115 laps. · Meet the Driver … Wimmer will appear at the Holiday Inn Chevrolet show car on Thursday, August 21 from 5 – 7 p.m. to meet with fans and sign autographs. The event will be located at Earhart Station, adjacent to the track property. · Childress, A Champion for Children … Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and the Richard Childress family has teamed up to form what will become the nation’s most comprehensive Institute for Pediatric Trauma. The Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma will focus on key areas in treatment, education and training, research and prevention of pediatric trauma. The Institute’s goal is to help pave the way for others in the nation searching for ways to help save the lives of severely injured children and help those who survive on the road to recovery. The Childress family has donated $5 million to the Medical Center to initiate the project, which will get underway later this year. Wake Forest Baptist and the Childress family are currently working with a number of corporations and individuals to raise the additional $20 million to help establish the Childress Institute. This institute has a goal to become the most comprehensive research center in the country as it develops new research initiatives and partners with other investigators throughout the nation. The race will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 26th of 35 races on the 2008 Nationwide Series calendar will air live on SPEED the same day beginning at 5 p.m. EDT. SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES: You ran the Nationwide Series race in March and had a strong run but your finish didn’t reflect that. What happened? “Traffic is pretty crazy at Bristol and we dealt with lapped cars for most of the day. We misjudged the weather at the end. Pat (crew chief Pat Smith ) made the call to come to pit road because we were hurting on tires so I came in to get some new ones. We just didn’t forecast the weather right and thought the rain would pass quickly. If the race had gone green then it would have played in our favor but it didn’t so it ended up hurting us. I hope to go back to Bristol and have another strong run and get the Holiday Inn Chevy up front.” How would you describe driving at Bristol ? “There is nothing that compares to driving at Bristol . We will run three-wide down the straightaways and two-and-three wide going through the corners. One little slip up by someone will take out a bunch of cars. Usually it’s a hard hit when you wreck there. The racing is always going to be the same no matter what they do to the track. It’s short-track racing so it’s always going to be competitive and it’s always going to fast.”
