Formerly a No. 21 machine, this chassis saw action in 2007 with Kevin Harvick behind the wheel at Darlington Raceway ( St. 17, Fn. 13). He also grabbed the Coors Light Pole and finished seventh with this race car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After receiving all the 2008 updates and being outfitted with the green and blue paint scheme showcasing the Holiday Inn Family of Brands -- Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express -- Wimmer steered this Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to a 12th-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and to a fourth-place finish at O’Reilly Raceway Park. · Points Check … Based on Jeff Burton’s fourth-place finish last week in California , the No. 29 team maintained the fourth position in the NNS owners’ championship point standings but moved within 16 points of third. The team sits 322 points behind leader Joe Gibbs’ No. 20 machine. In 27 races this season, the duo of Wimmer and Jeff Burton has earned one victory, six top-five and 16 top-10 finishes. · Richmond Report … In 11 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Richmond International Raceway, Wimmer has earned one top-five and eight top-10 finishes. The 32-year-old driver boasts an impressive 10.2 finishing average at the “Action Track.” Meanwhile, the Wausau , Wis. , native has led 47 laps at the three-quarter mile D-shaped oval. · Wimmer in the Loop at Richmond … o Law of Averages … According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, the 32-year-old driver has an Average Running Position of 13.07 at Richmond . The ARP is derived from taking the sum of a driver’s position on each lap and dividing it by the number of laps run in each race. o Running Up Front … Meanwhile, the six-time NNS winner has spent 68.1 percent (855 of 1,255) of laps contested running in the top 15 over the past five races at Richmond . o How do you Rate? … Wimmer has a Driver Rating 89.5 at Richmond . The Driver Rating is a formula that combines the following categories: wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum points a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The Driver Rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator. · RCR at Richmond … In 38 NNS starts at RIR, RCR has earned five wins (Bowyer – May ’07 and Kevin Harvick – May ’03, Sept. ’05, May ’06 and Sept. ‘06), two poles, 13 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. RCR NNS cars have also led 589 laps in 2008 and finished on the lead lap 51 times. · Legacy Pledge … Austin Dillon, the 18-year-old grandson of Richard Childress and son of RCR Vice President of Competition Mike Dillon, will attempt to make his Nationwide Series debut this weekend behind the wheel of RCR’s No. 21 Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma Chevrolet. Dillon is third in the NASCAR Camping World Series East standings, six points out of second and 182 behind the leader. The Lewisville , N.C. , driver won in his first Camping World Series race in April at Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway . In 10 NCWSE races, Dillon has collected one pole, four top-five and seven top-10 finishes. · Testing the Nationwide Series Car of Tomorrow … Members of RCR’s Nationwide Series teams will be in Richmond Sept. 8-9 as NASCAR oversees testing of its anticipated Nationwide Series Car of Tomorrow. · Carry Me Back to Old Virginia … Two members of the Holiday Inn Racing team hail from the Old Dominion State . Rear-tire carrier Tommy Wallace calls Richmond his hometown and shock specialist and catch can man P.J. Bryant was born in Dale City . · Friday Night Lights … The Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond International Raceway will be televised live on ESPN2 on Friday, Sept. 5 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 28th stop on the 35-race schedule will be televised live the same day live on ESPN2 beginning at 4 p.m. EDT. SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES: You finished 10th in the spring at Richmond . What will it take to improve upon that finish? “We just need to keep getting the Holiday Inn Chevy better. Earlier this year, I smashed the fender up a little and had to pit, so that put us back in the field. We were able to work our way up front. The No. 29 is always fast there and Clint’s (Bowyer) fast there, too. We’ll go back and look at our notes real hard. I think we had a top-five car in May but I need to stay out of those wrecks and keep all the fenders on until the end of the race.” Do you enjoy night racing at Richmond ? “I grew up short-track racing on Friday and Saturday nights under the lights and I think every driver enjoys it. It’s a little easier on you inside the car and I think it’s more exciting for the fans. I think that our cars look a little nicer under the lights, too. We usually have a little more grip at night so we can race a little bit harder. I’m a big fan of it and I love seeing night races on the schedule. There is no place like Richmond . It’s probably the best short track around for night racing.” What does it take to run well at Richmond ? “It’s about track position and keeping your car out front. You’ve got to use all those lines to block and cut other drivers’ momentum when they are going for a pass. I think what makes racing so great at Richmond is that you are on the defensive a lot and if you have a great race car then you can stay out on the track for about 125 laps and get out front and be right there at the end, challenging for the win.”
