Scott Wimmer, No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Homestead Preview NOTES: • This Week’s Holiday Inn Chevrolet at Homestead-Miami Speedway … Scott Wimmer will pilot Chassis No. 049 from the Richard Childress Racing Nationwide Series stable in this weekend’s Ford 300. Built new in 2006, Jeff Burton drove this chassis at Dover that June to notch Holiday Inn’s first series win. Last season, Wimmer drove this No. 29 Chevrolet to an 11th-place finish at New Hampshire. After receiving all the 2008 updates and being outfitted with the green and blue paint scheme showcasing the Holiday Inn Family of Brands – Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express – Wimmer steered this Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to a second-place finish at Kentucky in June and to a 22nd-place finish at Michigan in August. Burton also wheeled this car to an eighth-place finish at Chicago in July and to a second-place finish at Charlotte in October. • Miami Minutes … Wimmer has earned one win (2002) and two top-five finishes in five starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The six-time NNS winner has an average starting position of 24th coupled with a 20.4 finishing average. Over those five starts, the Wausau, Wis., native has completed 783 of the 1,000 laps contested and earned just shy of $200,000 in purse money. • Pretty Good for a Part-Timer … In 22 NNS starts this season, Wimmer has tallied one win (Nashville, March), one pole, five top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. Despite having competed in only 22 of the 34 NNS races this season, the 32-year-old driver has a 10.7 finishing average and is 17th in the drivers’ points. • A Look at the Charts … Based on Wimmer’s 19th-place finish last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway, the No. 29 team maintained their fourth-place standing in the NNS owners’ championship point standings. The Holiday Inn Racing team is now 354 markers behind the No. 20 entry in the lead, 326 points behind RCR’s No. 2 entry in second and 270 points behind the No. 60 machine in third. In 34 starts, Burton and Wimmer have earned one victory, nine top-five and 19 top-10 finishes. • Look Again … Holiday Inn Racing revved up its fan’s creativity for the third straight year by providing them the opportunity to re-design the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for this weekend’s race. James Raschke from, Bowden, Ga., will be on hand in Homestead to see his winning design take on the track. • Looking for the Three-peat … RCR’s flagship No. 2 team is currently second in the Nationwide Series owner point standings but trails Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 20 machine by a scant 28-point deficit. If Bowyer can pick up 29 points on the No. 20 entry this weekend, team owner Richard Childress will earn his third consecutive and fourth overall Nationwide Series championship trophy. RCR has earned more than 180 victories and 11 NASCAR championships, including six in the Sprint Cup Series with the legendary Dale Earnhardt and four in the Nationwide Series. RCR was the first organization to win championships in the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Truck Series. • The Collective RCR … In 34 races this season, RCR-prepared NNS entries have notched two wins (Bowyer, Bristol 1 and Wimmer, Nashville 1), 25 top-five and 52 top-10 finishes. RCR NNS cars have also led 796 laps in 2008 and finished on the lead lap 62 times with six different drivers including Bowyer, Burton, Austin Dillon, Bobby Labonte, Stephen Leicht and Wimmer. • RCR Nationwide Cars at Homestead … In 18 NNS starts at HMS, RCR boasts two poles (Jeff Green, 2002 and Kevin Harvick, 2006), two wins (Harvick, 2004 and Burton, 2007), three top-five and nine top-10 finishes. RCR-prepared race cars have also led 443 laps at the mile-and-half Homestead-Miami facility. • Catch the Action … Live coverage of the Ford 300 from Homestead-Miami Speedway will be televised live on ESPN2 Sat., Nov. 15 beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The race will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying will be televised live on SPEED the same day beginning at 11 a.m. EST. MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio will broadcast qualifying updates live. SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES: What are your thoughts going into your final race with RCR? “It’s going to be a pretty emotional weekend for me. This is where I started my first race for RCR in 2006 and where we kind of got our whole relationship going. It’s going to be hard to leave these guys. We built a great race team and were able to win an owner’s championship last year. Everyone in the Nationwide shop has really done a lot for my career. However, I am looking forward to moving onto my next adventure.” |
